Chapter History

The Forestburg FFA Chapter was chartered by the the Texas FFA Association on October 1, 1952.  Since this date, the Forestburg FFA Chapter has seen many happings in it's small town home.  Forestburg is a rural town in the southeastern part of Montague County.  It sits at the intersections of FM 455, FM 922, FM 677, and FM 1655.  Forestburg was settled in the 1850's by a handful of cattle ranchers but had to withstand severe indian raids.  It wasn't until the 1870's that Forestburg really started to grow.

A community that was orignially named Horn Hill, changed it's name to Forest Hill because of its location in a grove of Live Oak trees.  That name was later rejected due to a town of that name already exisiting, so Forestburg became the new name.

Forestburg has always had a foot in agriculture with cattle, cotton, and watermelons topping the list.  There is not much crop farming done around here anymore.  Most of the harvest is largely bermuda for good hay crops (when we are not in a drought!), good prairie grass fields for prairie hay, and cattle are still raised as the universal market animal.

In conversing with several members of the older populations, Forestburg has seen its share of gins, factories, cafes, and mechanics.  We currently have a general store that has been in existance for over a century, that has burned down at least twice but still handles the everyday hustle and bustle.  They have a little bit of everything there: gas, groceries, feed store, and local grill for most of the town to enjoy a good lunch.  There is another locally owned convience store, a winery, a local mechanic shop, and an oilfield company that also call Forestburg home to their businesses.

Overall, this is a pretty neat little town that has deep country roots.  The Forestburg FFA Chapter is just a small part of what makes the town great.  The chapter has seen just a handfull of leaders in its past 60 years, with a majority of them being from one man's years of service.  Hopefully, we will have many more years to continue the chapter's roots!

If you ever want to drop by and see us, don't hesitate!
